The village is located near the Molėtai-Balninkai road, on a hill, on the northeastern shore of Lake Gilužis. The plan is typical of villages divided into single farmsteads. The street is built along the shore of the lake. The rhythmically repeating volumes of buildings, fences and trees form a rather monotonous street space. It is diversified by different orientation of cottages and different interior spaces of homesteads. The village of Gilužiai, which belonged to the folwark of the Alanta manor Girsteitiškis, was mentioned for the first time in 1598.
