A chapel and a cross were built in the fields of Janonys village, and a spring flows nearby. Pilgrims consider this place magical and holy. On July 13-14, 1962, R. P. Matiukaitė, a resident of the village of Janonys, saw the Holy Virgin Mary. Since then, pilgrims have been flocking to the village of Janonys, even though it was forbidden to visit during Soviet times. Pilgrims used to secretly go and immortalize this place, but the memorials were destroyed. After regaining independence, a chapel and a cross were built in this place, and the nearby spring was repaired. The holy place in Janonys is heavily visited by pilgrims and tourists.
