Monument to the decade of Lithuanian independence (1918-1928) in Joniškis

Monument to the decade of Lithuanian independence (1918-1928) in Joniškis

The monument was built in 1928 in the center of the town, in front of the church. Inscriptions and national symbols are carved on all sides of the obelisk. In 1952, the town's hooligans tried to break the monument. When they failed to do so, they pushed it into a hole dug nearby and buried it. In 1988, the monument was excavated and preserved. In 1990, the monument was restored at the expense of the Joniškis district council and collective farm.
